Week 14

fmask5.jpgfmask1.jpgfmask2.jpgfmask3.jpgfmask4.jpgWe discussed last weeks session at the Clinton Centre and everyone agreed they really enjoyed the day and look forward to meeting again at the Model Arts Centre. In art we got back into our mask making and some students put on their finishing touches whilst others continued developing their ideas. Those who finished their masks talked about their characters, the noises they would make and the way they would defend themselves or attack their enemies. Two bird characters decided to make talon gloves and a few red devils made tripod forks and blasters. The magician began to make a weird machine gun and the busy enthusiasm of the class was exciting and noisy with conversations and ideas.

Week 13

On St Valentines Day, we all met up for the first time in the Clinton Arts Centre in Enniskillen. The Devenish group arrived first and took the opportunity to watch the Mercy College video diary. It was fun with lots of pop music and showed us many similarities with our school. When the Mercy group arrived we all got introduced to their artist, the teachers and the pupils. We then went outside and played name learning games. After that we came back in and did an art project. We were split into 6 groups and all got the same material to make a tower with 6 easter eggs on top. It was a competition to make the highest tower and was full of lots of fun and challenges. After lunch we downloaded our photos and video of the morning activity, put music to it and then showed it to the whole group. We then brainstormed about how we wanted the project to move forward with ideas ranging from Bebo, emails weblogs and postcards to this website. It was a fun day and we look forward to another one in the Model Arts Centre in Sligo.

12th week in the mercy

more face and hand casting, we are getting into that now.

In SPHE we wrote poems with the words from last week expressing the feelings from the eye game and incorporated them into drawings of eyes. Also took photos of everybodies eyes and worked on some of them in photoshop.

11th week in the mercy

We discussed the theme of respect and started working on making plaster casts of the faces.

In SPHE we divided everybody into groups according to the color of their eyes and gave each group different tasks. the brown eyes got chocolate, the blue eyes had to clean up and the green eyes had to rearrange the furniture. I was really surprised how little resistance there was from the girls. Afterwards we discussed int he groups how everybody felt and did drawings of eyes. lots of anger!!!!!

9th week in the mercy

We started back after christmas with a review of what we’ ve done so far. After watching the video from the open day we had a chat about identity  and stereotypes and how we addressed these issues. I also introduced the idea of group profiles and the girls did drawings of their pencilcases.

Week 12

display2.jpgdisplay3.jpgdisplay1.jpg

This week we did more work on our masks and processed more pictures of our work to date. I got more of my own painting done and saw the first snow of this winter. We also began to prepare for next weeks session in the Clinton Centre. This will be very exciting as all the pupils, artists and teachers involved in the project will be coming together to produce some artwork and plan the remainder of the project. We hope to get the Mercy College video diary before the event to help get to know them.

Week 11

devmasks.jpgdevmasks2.jpgThe pupils had all worked on their profiles during the week to help take their masks further. A few who were absent last week played catch up and the rest developed their masks by adding sculptural features and starting to paint them. We have a lot of Red Devils, an Orc, a Magician, a Cat, some Birds and some Butterflies. In music we thought of their sounds and composed and recorded some ideas to represent them.
